News and Features

Pizza with the Principal:  Join us on Jan 24 to hear Mr. Kershner discuss the School Improvement Plan and take questions from parents.  A brief PTSA membership meeting will be held at the event.  The pizza dinner will be sponsored by the PTSA and reservations are required.  Event start time is 5:30 p.m. and will conclude before the start of the M2M3 Drama Club performance of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” at 7 p.m.

  • PTSA Cultural Arts Program On Feb. 11, the PTSA Cultural Arts Program has sponsored a performance by Ms.Yvette Lewis, Opera Singer, at Moore Square for the 6th graders. Lyric soprano and music educator, Yvette Lewis has developed this unique, multifaceted program to introduce young audiences to the world of opera, featuring operatic arias, storytelling and audience participation.  With lots of humor sprinkled throughout, this program will convert even the staunchest opera haters.
  • PTSA Business Alliance Career Day:  Looking for Nurses, Artist, Firemen, Policemen, Dentist, Doctors, Senators, and more to offer insight on future career choices for our 6th,7th and 8th grade students. Career day will be held on Feb. 29th from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. If you would like to come and talk to the students please contact either Vickie Simmons at vsimmons@wcpss.net or Delores Little at dlittle@wcpss.net.
  • Bicycle Rack:  The PTSA has purchased a bike rack for M2M3 students and staff. Installation by the school system has been requested. The PTSA will announce when the rack is available for use by our students.
  • Spring Gallery Walk:  Planning for the Spring Gallery Walk for April is underway. If you would like to assist with plans for the showcase of student produced work, please contact the M2M3 Museums Coordinator Joan Certa-Moore at jcertamoore@wcpss.net.  Or if you would like to help the PTSA make plans for food sales and fundraising at this event please contact, the VP of Ways & Means, Trish Ragsdale at tttarags@bellsouth.net.
  • Spring Book Fair: The next book fair is plan for April 13-19. Please contact Ms. Beverly Almond at balmond@wcpss.net to assist.  Your support of this event allows for additional purchases of books for the media center.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher’s Appreciation week is May 4-10.  The PTSA Hospitality Committee will coordinate this week long event of thanking our staff for their support of the students at M2M3.
  • PTSA Meetings:  The PTSA board meets the first Thursday of each month in the media center. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. If you would like to influence decisions, see what happens behind the scenes or get more involved in helping support our students and teachers, please join us at the next meeting. All parents, PTSA members and non-members, are invited to attend. You do not need to be a PTSA officer or committee chairperson to attend. If you have a project or topic you would like to see the PTSA to discuss please attend our next meeting or contact the PTSA at m2m3.ptsa@gmail.com.
  • Reflections:  An entry to the Wake County reflections competition has been made by Petra Van De Hay.  Petra created a musical composition pertaining to the theme “I Can Make A Difference…”  The PTSA will update you on the status of Petra’s entry.
  • Holiday Cookie Exchange: Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped organize the event and who provided cookies, LOTS of cookies. We received over 100 DOZEN cookies. Teacher enjoyed the thoughtfulness and generosity.
  • Coffee Talk for Parents: The first coffee talk was on Jan 10 in the Media Center. Mr. Kershner met with parents and discussed the School Improvement Process and changes to the 2nd Semester schedule. If you have a suggestion for a future coffee talk discussion, please contact the PTSA Board at m2m3.ptsa@gmail.com

M2M3 PTSA Board Members


President -               Open

The President presides at all meetings of the PTSA; serves as a member ex officio of all committees except the nominating committee; and coordinates the work of the PTSA.

1st Vice President – Cathy Lehman

The 1st Vice President shall perform the duties in the absence or inability of the President to perform duties as described in the M2M3 PTSA By-Laws and Standing Rules.

Secretary –
Robin Oke

The Secretary keeps track of the board documents and records, ensures the accuracy of meeting minutes and keeps the board and School informed of meeting dates and times.

Treasurer –
Cathy Harris

The Treasurer has custody of all funds of the PTSA; keeps full and accurate accounts of receipts and expenditures in accordance with the annual budget; prepares a monthly Treasurer’s Report; and files required tax forms on behalf of the PTSA.

Vice President of Membership –
Donna Mitchell

The Vice President of Membership recruits members from the M2M3 families, staff, students and businesses. Track all memberships, issue cards, and submits a membership list to the M2M3 PTSA and to the PTA of North Carolina.

Vice President of Ways and Means - Trish Ragsdale

The Vice President of Ways and Means reviews, makes recommendations, and coordinates all fundraising activities for M2M3 PTSA. Oversees all Ways and Means committee activities.

Cultural Arts Programs-
Christine Olson

The Cultural Arts Chairman researches and arranges for cultural performances, writer in residence, or artist in residence programs for the students at M2M3.

Grants Coordination-
Crystal Patillo

The Grants Coordinator researches and makes applications to grant programs that can assist the learning process or enhance the learning environment at M2M3.

Hospitality-
Donna Mitchell

The Hospitality Committee organizes and provides snacks for the various receptions and events scheduled by M2M3 PTSA

Media Center-
Beverly Almond

The Media Center Coordinator organizes volunteers to assist in the Media Center and to help staff the Fall and Spring Book Fairs.

Communications-
Nedra Nlewedim

 

The Communication Chairman coordinates all communication activities needed by the PTSA including, print, telephone, and electronic, and the PTSA website.

Open positions on the M2M3 PTSA board currently are Reflections, Volunteers Coordinator, Beautification, Legislative, Character Education, Sports, and Parliamentarian.  To help fill one of these positions, please contact the PTSA.

Wake County Public School System Monthly News Magazine TV Show

The School Connection is the Wake County Public School System's monthly television program connecting you to news, features and information about education in Wake County. This 30-minute news magazine program, which debuted May 1,2003, focuses on WCPSS news, programs, employees, students, services and issues. Each month, the show takes a look at interesting programs or activities in our schools, features employees who make a difference in the lives of our students, offers insight into an educational issue, and provides answers to parents' questions. The program concludes with an artistic performance by a different student group each month. The School Connection will air on Time Warner Cable channels 10 and 11 in Raleigh and on channel 11 in Cary.

The NC Department of Public Instruction web site offers descriptions of curriculum, testing requirements, and pending NC legislation pertaining to education and children. PTA Presidents, Newsletter Chairs, and Legislative Reps especially may also wish to subscribe to DPI's "NC Partners," a biweekly e-letter about NC education events and issues.

National PTA

"Checking In @ Children First" is a biweekly email newsletter filled with parenting tips, national events, and PTA news. Subscribe by visiting the web site. You automatically become a member of the National PTA when you join Moore Square Museum Magnet Middle School PTSA.

 

 

Volunteer Opportunities

Special thanks to all the parents who sent in cookies for the M2M3 PTSA cookie exchange last month. The cookies were distributed to the staff to wish them a happy holiday.  Thanks for all the donations that made this a successful event.
