Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School is an interactive learning environment that expands beyond the classroom walls to the museums, community and the world.

Museum Approaches to learning is multifaceted at Moore Square. The students and teachers:

  • Use objects and exhibits at museums as primary and secondary source entry points
  • Use objects to analyze and research relevant curriculum
  • Develop habits of learning and teaching which is inquiry based
  • Students learn to analyze and  design exhibits both within a museum and within the school
  • Students create exhibits of their work throughout the school which are organized, have clear relevant learning goals and objectives, visual appeal and are engaging to an audience.

With downtown Raleigh at our doorstep, students have access to a variety of resources to create an interactive learning environment.

In a typical school year, our classrooms are extended into various traditional and non-traditional museum spaces. Study guided trips are designed around curriculum objectives providing authentic experiences for our students.

Continuing with the museums approaches to learning, students at M2M3 exhibit their work throughout the building. School-wide "Gallery Walks" featuring integrated coached projects are unique to the program at Moore Square.

In a typical school year, we visit and partner with:

Our partnerships with museums provide us with unique opportunities for collaboration on special projects. Some past collaborations include: the CAM project and Carlton Place. The Contemporary Art Museum conducts a program with a group of 6th graders every year examining Downtown Raleigh: Past, Present, Future.
